feel2cook is an advanced hotplate with uniquely crafted tactile partitions, intuitive operating elements, and a customized design that enables those with visual impairments to prepare a meal all by themselves.
feel2cook is a standard-sized ceramic stove designed specifically for the visually impaired that provides feedback other than sight. The induction module located underneath the 12mm ceramic plate initiates a magnetic bond with the cookware allowing the pot to heat up.
The “cold” area, characterized by four indented partitions is designed for the preparation of foods. The hot area, separated by a raised section, serves as a positioning aid for the cooking pot. The knobs for the hotplates are push-enabled with twelve dials that stop and click at each turn making an audible pop. This is a reference to the analog clock, which is a common orientation aid for the blind.
In addition, the stud on the knob allows the user to locate the heat setting. The 12 position is the only position where the button can be pushed down, ensuring that the device is turned off. The cooking pot is equipped with a wrap-around handle to prevent hand burns and a bayonet lock to secure the lid when pouring.
